Lara is a Principal landscape architect who provides design leadership to projects in the Seattle and Portland offices, with a focus on public and urban work. An accomplished professional, she has designed and managed iconic downtown parks, waterfronts, open space master plans, and university campus projects throughout the country. “I love the richness of landscape as a design medium and the fact that each project demands a different, contextually informed approach,” she says. “Landscape architecture allows us to create unique places that resonate at many scales.” Lara collaborates extensively with multi-disciplinary design teams and public and private client groups to develop projects that transform their cities and surroundings.
Lara’s passion for public open space is rooted in her childhood in New York’s Hudson River Valley, where early exposure to Olmsted landscapes – and the region’s gritty post-industrial waterfronts – struck a chord in her imagination. After years of practice, she has immersed herself in the culture of the Pacific Northwest and spends time hiking and exploring with her family.
Lara holds a Bachelor in Art from Yale and completed her Master in Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She is actively engaged in Seattle’s design community, sitting on student award juries, studio reviews, and professional and academic advisory committees.
