Eugene’s Downtown Riverfront District Continues with Phase 2

Our acclaimed design work at Eugene’s emerging Downtown Riverfront district continues with Phase 2 of Downtown Riverfront Park. This flexible 1-acre open space will connect anticipated mixed-use development to the riverfront area that opened this past June. The project will expand the park’s capacity for community events, while also offering places for play, relaxation, and reflection. The input of more than 1000 residents and City of Eugene staff led to a design that features an entry grove of trees that frame views towards the Willamette River, a low mounded lawn for casual recreation and seating, a large open plaza, and a play area inspired by riparian forests. Currently the team is hard at work developing the preferred concept, which includes an interactive fountain featuring the community’s memories of the Millrace, an historic waterway which now runs beneath the site. The work of artist Volkan Alkanoglu will also be integrated into the park.
