Walker Macy is part of the team that is re-imagining and modernizing multiple libraries in the Deschutes County public library system. These libraries will provide gathering spaces for their communities, supporting educational and social programs. The new Redmond Library is embedded in its downtown, creating a civic center in concert with City Hall and Centennial Park. Existing libraries in Downtown Bend, La Pine, Sisters, and Sunriver have been renovated with improved outdoor areas.
The new Central Library (pictured) couples state-of-the-art library services with outdoor gathering areas that connect the building’s lobbies and community rooms to the surrounding High Desert landscape. The site derives its character from local materials and ecologies, featuring rocky landforms, weathering steel and basalt walls, preserved Ponderosa Pine trees and extensive native plantings.
