UO Knight Arena and Ford Alumni Center

Walker Macy was a key member of the design team for the University of Oregon’s $227 million basketball arena, which replaced the 80-year-old Mac Court facility. This high-profile project established a new signature building for the University and created an eastern gateway to the campus. The arena, which seats 12,500 spectators, was designed to carry the energy of the interior out to the surrounding site. Walker Macy assisted in site planning as well as landscape architectural design, with plazas and circulation that consider the large game day crowds, and better integrating a once-separate east campus area into the fabric of the campus core.

The Ford Alumni Center shares its site with the Arena, creating a front door for the campus. Walker Macy designed the site for the facility, including hardscape and plantings. The primary landscape feature is the 3,400 sf courtyard, used for alumni gatherings. The space features a rain shelter, plantings and walls for screening, and a terraced corten planter with an integrated water feature.
