The Salmonberry Corridor is an 84-mile long historic rail corridor that has experienced severe washouts from flooding, leading to the permanent closure of much of the corridor to regular rail traffic. Walker Macy led a feasibility study and master planning process for the project, establishing a guiding vision of a recreational connection from the Portland metro area to the Oregon Coast through the state forests and remote canyons of the scenic Coast Range. After substantial study of physical conditions, we engaged the community and stakeholders (including Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, Port of Tillamook Bay, Tillamook and Washington County, Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, Oregon Department of Forestry, numerous municipalities, adjacent property owners and citizens) to determine the alignment and design for the trail as well as key destinations, trailheads and campgrounds.
