UC Riverside North District Housing

Building on the firm’s prior work on multiple campus master plans and studies, Walker Macy is helping UCR to craft a vital new community on campus that will significantly accommodate UCR’s projected growth. The North Campus was a large, low-density area characterized by family student housing in outdated former barracks. Based in the framework established in the Campus Physical Master Plan, the new community is transforming into a cohesive, contemporary, complete student life neighborhood. The project’s first phase, developed by American Campus Communities, includes 6000 student beds, two dining halls, recreation fields and a NCAA soccer stadium on over 50 acres of the UCR North Campus. Walker Macy’s role includes creating gathering spaces, public plazas as well as design of a pedestrian and bicycle network throughout the development, with strong connections to the city and to the campus core. The first phase of development is slated to open by 2020. In conjunction with this project, Walker Macy also worked on the redevelopment of the adjacent, mid-century Dundee / Glasgow housing and dining complex.
