Walker Macy has played a key role in multiple phases of planning design at this new public four-year and graduate university serving Central Oregon. The firm provided planning and landscape design for the first ten acres of campus landscape and infrastructure, Tykeson Hall (a multi-use academic building), and a student life facility. Sited on a reclaimed former pumice mine and landfill, the team employed an integrated, place-based site design approach with progressive approaches to stormwater management, and native High Desert habitat restoration and plantings. This project set a framework for future planning and development that will integrate the buildings and landscape with a strongly contextual design language; will promote multi-modal transportation; and will sensitively weave the campus into the adjacent high-end residential neighborhoods. Walker Macy’s work on this first cornerstone of campus development led to subsequent participation in the award-winning OSU Cascades Long-Range Development Plan.
