Happy Valley Downtown Plan

The City of Happy Valley is acquiring over 30 acres of land for a new mixed-use downtown district, adjacent to a new community park (also a Walker Macy project), which will provide a distinctive, walkable heart for an area of rapid growth. Walker Macy is the lead urban designer in crafting this vision for a new higher density, energy-efficient downtown in this growing suburban community and we led the concept design of the adjacent community park. Public land ownership will help to underwrite ambitious plans for up to 1200 units of mixed housing and 35,000sf of commercial uses. The new downtown will be connected to the park and to other neighborhoods with a Main Street through the district serving as the extension of Scouter’s Mountain Road, designed with generous sidewalks, protected bike lanes and trails. The plan also proposes lower parking ratios according to Oregon’s new statewide climate-friendly planning goals. Coursing through the new downtown will be the Rock Creek corridor with ecological restoration to provide a natural area within walking distance of all residents and workers in the district.
