Nathan Hilmer discovered landscape architecture through construction. “During my undergrad and graduate studies, I spent my summers pushing soil in a skid steer, grading sites and installing stonework,” says Nathan. “And while I miss the machinery and calloused hands, I appreciate that I'm now able to inscribe my own ideas on the land.” He adds that being a landscape architect gives him an opportunity to participate in the cultural inertia that forces the evolution of the landscape. Walker Macy found Nathan through the University of Oregon, when he impressed us with his team's winning design for the Festival of Flowers in 2004.
