“When we find the equilibrium where people thrive and the natural environment flourishes, that is a successful landscape,” says Washington native Andrew Holder. As a landscape designer, Andrew strives to achieve that balance in vibrant, inviting spaces which reinforce the surrounding landscape. Holder pursued landscape architecture once he discovered it. “I'd always been into plants, maps, and design,” says the University of Oregon grad. “But I had no idea such a profession existed until I encountered it in college.”

Since finding his path, Andrew has been enjoying the challenges associated with designing actual pieces of the planet, with, he says, “the incredibly complex interactions every site has with the rest of the world around it.” When Andrew's not sitting at his desk, he can be found on his mountain bike, in the backcountry snowboarding, drinking microbrews and, most recently, floating in the ocean learning to surf.
