"I love cities, with their warts and all," says Jarvis Payne about why he decided to pursue landscape architecture, which, to him, is the practice of enriching the out-of-doors for man and beast. "I wanted to create artistic, functional, and site specific landscapes that energize urban life."
Before coming back to his roots—Jarvis was born in Portland—he spent the last 20 years practicing LA in San Francisco. When the University of Washington alumni isn't enriching the out-of-doors, he's out the door himself enjoying the Oregon coast, hunting for mid-century design, or going on adventures with friends and family.
